Scores

I feel it’s important to have a consistent, quantifiable system to judge the quality of wine, but I don’t love points or medals.  My judging “scale” is as follows:

Poor
Average
Good
Very Good
Awesome

As a buyer, I feel that judging a wine on its technical merits is fine, but the judgement is only useful when taking price into account too.  I may label an amazing wine “Poor” because I don’t think its great value for money.  And I may label a technically average wine “Awesome” if it tastes like a $20 bottle and you can buy it for $3!

All prices are based on the cellar door price if I’ve tasted the wine without purchasing it; or the shelf price if I bought it retail.  Prices are current as at the date of the review but are subject to change.

Take scores with a grain of salt.  My opinion is less important than the feeling you get when you drink the wine.  And of course, a great bottle can also be defined by circumstance, company and food.

Finally, it’s important to remember that whether I enjoy a particular wine or not, someone has poured their heart and soul into making it. These wines represent their livelihoods and their passions, so it's unlikely I’m going to spend my time lambasting products on this site. If I have critical feedback to give, I am more likely to give it in private, and constructively.  I don’t believe there are many truly faceless corporations in the wine industry; if you dig hard enough, you are always likely to find someone who cares.
