Purpose and Standards

Purpose:

I am not doing this to make my million. People who want to be rich and aim to get there by working in wine are seriously misguided. The wine world can, however, add richness to your life.  There are more generous and kind-hearted people in the wine industry than in any other walk of life and everyone in the trade has a story to tell about a great human being generous with their time, product, or self.

This blog is a spur for me to keep my finger on the pulse, and give structure to what would otherwise be called a habit. In reviewing wines I force myself to think critically, and not just drink for the sake of drinking.

Standards:

If I work directly for you, I’m not reviewing your wines. It follows that if I'm reviewing a wine, I'm not being paid to do so.

If you really think my review is worthy of passing on you can do that for free, but don’t alter what I’ve said; I will call you out on it. Please attribute the source with a link to the original review.

Don’t apply my review to a different vintage of the same wine, or different cuvĂ©e.

Of course in this industry friendships form. This has no impact on reviews. All reviews are about what’s in the glass, not who I’m mates with.
